The President of the Erada Organization and the Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations and Torture called on the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to prioritize the human rights file in Yemen, demanding an immediate end to Houthi violations and the release of forcibly abducted persons, foremost among them the forcibly disappeared and staff members of the United Nations and humanitarian organizations.
This came during a speech delivered by the President of the Erada Organization and the Yemeni Center before the Human Rights Council, under Agenda Item 4, dedicated to discussing “Human rights situations that require the Council’s attention,” on September 22, 2026.
The President of the Erada Organization and the Yemeni Center stated that the organization, in partnership with the Yemeni Center, conveys to the Council the voices of thousands of victims and their families who are still waiting to know the fate of their loved ones amidst the ongoing war and the harsh humanitarian conditions experienced by Yemenis.
He pointed to the continuation of what he described as “grave violations” committed by the Houthi militia, including arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and torture, noting that the militia topped the list of recorded violations, accounting for approximately 92% of total cases.
He added that violations also include landmine planting and the recruitment of children from schools and summer camps, in addition to children being subjected to exploitation and abuse.
The President of the Erada Organization and the Yemeni Center touched upon field developments during the first half of September, pointing to what he described as Houthi escalation against a number of cities and villages in Hodeidah and Taiz governorates, which resulted in civilian casualties and widespread displacement.
According to the statement, the escalation resulted in the killing of 154 civilians and the injury of hundreds, while approximately 10,667 families suffered forced displacement in Taiz and Hodeidah governorates, amidst difficult humanitarian and living conditions.
He also noted that the IDP camp in Raghwan, Marib governorate, was subjected to repeated attacks using ballistic missiles and drones, resulting in several casualties, including children.
The President of the Erada Organization and the Yemeni Center demanded that the Human Rights Council “prioritize the cause of Yemen,” calling for an immediate halt to violations, the annulment of death sentences, and the release of all abducted and forcibly disappeared persons, as well as UN and humanitarian organization staff.
He also demanded the “unconditional release” of Dr. Ali Al-Mudhwahi and Mohammed Al-Shami.
In conclusion, he emphasized that “redress for victims is not a political demand, but rather a legal obligation and a fundamental human right,” calling on the international community and the Human Rights Council to maintain attention on the human rights and humanitarian file in Yemen.
