63rd Session of the Human Rights Council

As part of its ongoing activities, the “Erada Organization for Combating Torture and Enforced Disappearance”, in partnership with the Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations “Will and Hope”, held a meeting with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. This took place in the context of discussing a number of human rights reports; one of which specifically deals with detention centers, secret prisons, and the file of abductees, while the second addresses the grave violations committed by the terrorist Houthi militia in the districts of Taiz and Hodeidah governorates during recent events involving the Houthi invasion of both governorates, the extent of displacement and forced displacement, summary execution crimes, and the heavy bombardment inflicted on civilian populations and travelers using ballistic missiles, drones, and heavy artillery, in addition to the attacks with ballistic missiles on internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Raghwan district, Marib governorate, which resulted in the killing of a number of children. The meeting also touched upon the issue of abductees and the Houthis’ thwarting of the exchange process that was scheduled to take place last August.

The meeting also addressed the situation of UN employees abducted by the Houthi militia in Sana’a, foremost among them Dr. Ali Al-Mudawahi, and the grave violations committed by the Houthi militia against them, as well as the ongoing trials before the illegitimate Specialized Criminal Court, in addition to the torture and psychological destruction to which the abductees are subjected and the harsh conditions they endure; bearing in mind that their only “crime” is their work in humanitarian organizations striving to provide a dignified life for those in need, and their refusal to submit to the terrorism of the Houthis, who habitually seize aid through devious means, and the refusal of humanitarian workers to pay levies to Houthi thugs, which led to their abduction, subjecting many of them to torture, and forcing them to make confessions of spying for Western countries, in flagrant violation of the provisions of International Humanitarian Law.

“Erada Organization” also reviewed with the official of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Section, Mr. Mohammad Al-Nsour, the widespread arrest campaign witnessed in the areas of Mokha, Hays, and Al-Wazi’iyah.

“Erada Organization” stressed the necessity for the United Nations and the international community to assume their legal and moral responsibilities toward the victims in Hodeidah, Taiz, and Marib governorates, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of all abductees, including UN staff, and all arbitrarily detained and forcibly disappeared individuals.
