Geneva – Switzerland

On the sidelines of the 63rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the President of the Erada Organization for Combating Torture and Enforced Disappearance and President of the Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations and Torture (Will and Hope), Sheikh Jamal Mohsen Al-Maamari, held an important meeting with Ms. Katariina Tapio from the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in Geneva.

During the meeting, an extensive discussion took place regarding the human rights violations file in Yemen, where Sheikh Jamal Al-Maamari handed over a number of important human rights reports addressing the conditions of detainees. The meeting also addressed recent events, including the invasion of Taiz and Hodeidah governorates, their bombardment and destruction over the heads of civilian residents, and the accompanying forced displacement resulting from these Houthi attacks.

The meeting also covered child recruitment and other violations targeting civilians and displaced persons. All arguments and presentations submitted by the Erada Organization—in partnership with the Yemeni Center—were listened to with great interest and care, followed by thorough discussion, alongside explaining the evidence of these violations and the efforts made, which were prepared during the second half of 2026.

Furthermore, discussions addressed the severity of the violations practiced by the Houthi militia on regional and international peace and security, as well as the importance of restoring state institutions and ensuring that perpetrators do not escape punishment.

For its part, the EU Delegation welcomed the efforts made by the Erada Organization in defending detainees and victims of violations, praising its independent and transparent work, as well as the direct efforts exerted by the organization regarding the file of abducted and forcibly disappeared persons in Houthi detention centers.

The meeting also touched upon the abductions of international organization staff, including workers at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in addition to the situation of Dr. Ali Al-Mudawahi, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the targeting of personnel in humanitarian missions and organizations.

The President of the Erada Organization and Yemeni Center, Sheikh Jamal Al-Maamari, reviewed the organization’s and center’s efforts in monitoring, documenting, and following up on the files of arbitrarily detained and forcibly disappeared individuals, caring for victims of torture and enforced disappearance, and what victims have been subjected to from 2014 until today, emphasizing the militia’s continued violation of civilian rights.

Sheikh Jamal Al-Maamari also stressed the necessity of diligent and discreet work to track the conditions of the disappeared in secret prisons, monitor perpetrators of violations, and highlighted the significant efforts made by the Erada Organization in partnership with the Yemeni Center in this regard through preparing detailed files on perpetrators of violations in Houthi secret detention centers.

The President of the Erada Organization and Head of the Yemeni Center pointed out the ongoing suffering of civilians despite talk of peace over six years of a “no peace, no war” status without reaching any tangible results, amidst what he described as systematic terrorism practiced by the militia, including child recruitment, planting landmines, obstructing the work of humanitarian organizations, and repressive practices against civilians in areas under Houthi control.
