The Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations and Torture (Will and Hope) welcomes the safe release of journalist Mohammed Al-Miyahi from Houthi militia prisons in Sana’a, after nearly a year and a half of arbitrary detention due to his legitimate exercise of the right to freedom of opinion and expression.

While Al-Miyahi’s release is a positive step, it also highlights the ongoing suffering of hundreds of abductees and detainees held in Houthi militia prisons, many of whom remain in harsh conditions because of their views or their media and human rights activities.

The Center expresses its solidarity with journalist Mohammed Al-Miyahi, congratulating him on his safe release after a difficult ordeal and wishing him recovery and strength as he returns to continue his professional and humanitarian role in serving truth and the free word.

The Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations and Torture (Will and Hope) also renews its call for the immediate and unconditional release of all abductees and forcibly disappeared persons, and for ensuring respect for human rights and press freedom in accordance with international laws and human rights conventions.

Freedom of expression and freedom of the press are fundamental pillars of any society that seeks justice and human dignity, and they cannot be restricted through detention or repression.
