The Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations and Torture “Will & Hope” Condemns the Horrific Massacre Against Civilians in Hajjah Governorate
The Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations and Torture followed with great sorrow and pain the horrific scenes and the heinous crime committed by the terrorist Houthi militia yesterday evening, Sunday. The attack targeted a gathering of peaceful civilians in the village of “Bani Al-Mash” in the Ad-Dair sub-district, Hayran District, Hajjah Governorate.
In a sacred human moment, while residents were preparing to break their fast, a drone belonging to the Houthi militia launched a treacherous attack on the residential gathering, turning the Iftar table into a scene of blood and death.
The Houthi militia targeted an Iftar gathering at the home of Sheikh Nasser Junaid in the village of Bani Al-Mash.
This cowardly terrorist attack resulted in a humanitarian catastrophe, documented by the Center with the following figures and facts:
- 9 civilians were martyred, half of whom were children whose lives were stolen in a moment of treachery.
- 21 others were injured with varying degrees of severity, and the condition of many is described as critical.
Medical Response:
The victims were transported to the health center in Hayran District, while the critical nature of some cases necessitated their transfer for treatment to the “Al-Mousam” medical center in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Center’s data indicates that a number of the victims are “Internally Displaced Persons” (IDPs) who had previously fled the hell of the Houthi war machine, only to be ambushed again by the militia’s drones in their displacement camps. This reveals a systematic determination to kill and liquidate civilians and deprive them of their right to life.
The Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations and Torture confirms that it has obtained shocking photos and footage documenting the dismembered remains of the victims.
The deliberate targeting of civilian gatherings with drones constitutes a flagrant violation of International Humanitarian Law and clearly amounts to a “war crime” with full legal elements, necessitating international criminal prosecution and representing a breach of international conventions and treaties.
This attack reflects a total disregard for the principles of distinction, necessity, and proportionality, and is a grave violation of the Geneva Conventions regarding the protection of civilians in times of war.
The Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations and Torture calls upon the United Nations and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to form an independent investigation committee to examine this massacre and hold the perpetrators and their leaders accountable.
The Yemeni Center demands that the international community end the policy of oversight that encourages the militia to continue its crimes, and work to provide real protection for civilians and displaced persons.
Furthermore, it appeals to relief organizations to provide urgent medical support to the injured who are struggling for their lives in health centers that lack the most basic capabilities.
In conclusion, the Yemeni Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violations and Torture (Will & Hope) extends its deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims. It emphasizes that this blood will not be forgotten by the passage of time, and the path of justice will reach the perpetrators no matter how long it takes.
